What is The Refillery?
The Refillery is a community resource, not a profit-making business. Run as a not-for-profit under the Sustainable Shrivenham banner, it offers affordable, packaging-free food, cleaning products, and personal care items.

Customers bring their own containers, helping reduce single-use plastic and food waste while making sustainable shopping more accessible to everyone. Every penny we make goes back into running the shop, supporting local sustainability initiatives, and funding community education projects.

As a project of Sustainable Shrivenham, , supported by funds from The Hub and a National Lottery Awards for All grant - our goal is to make low-waste shopping affordable and accessible, encouraging more people in our community to embrace sustainable living.

How we got here

The Refillery is a direct response to what our community told us it wanted. Back in 2020, we ran a village-wide survey to understand local priorities for sustainability. The number one concern was reducing single-use plastic, followed closely by tackling food waste. These priorities have shaped everything we do—first with The Hub, and now with The Refillery. Every refill sold is a small but important step towards meeting those shared goals.

Building a Greener Future Together:

If you’ve visited The Hub over the last two years, you’ll know it’s been more than just a place to recycle, reuse, and repair. It’s been a community space where ideas have grown, friendships have formed, and a shared vision for a more sustainable Shrivenham has taken shape. Now, that vision has expanded with the opening of The Refillery—and we’d love for the whole village to be part of shaping its future.

Why we need your help

We rely on volunteers to keep both The Hub and The Refillery running. Without them, we simply couldn’t do what we do—our paid staff hours alone don’t cover the full opening times. It’s thanks to our incredible volunteers that we’ve been able to open the doors, keep prices low, and make sustainable living something the whole community can take part in.

The commitment our volunteers have shown over the past six years has been nothing short of inspiring. They’ve fixed bikes, sorted donations, manned the till, cleaned, stocked shelves, planned events, and welcomed every visitor with a smile. Their hard work and dedication have made Sustainable Shrivenham the success it is today.

A shop shaped by you

The Refillery isn’t just our shop—it’s your shop. We want it to reflect the needs and ideas of the people who use it. That means listening to what you’d like to see on the shelves, how you’d like to shop, and how we can make sustainable living even easier for everyone.
