New flash

Excited to say we have made more progress on the possibility of making the old Lloyds building into a hub for Sustainable Shrivenham.

Watch this space and start rolling up your sleeves, we will need all the help we can get to set it up!

Online blogs

We are regularly adding to our series of Blogs. These include a monthly focus on recipe ideas and tips that might encourage you too to switch to a less meat based way of eating and find ways to reduce food waste and use seasonal ingredients. We hope that some of you will try them out and share some feedback. You too might wish to share your favourite recipe based around the ingredient of the month.

Members Meeting

Early March saw us hosting our first online talk with Question and anwer session via the Zoom platform. It was open to all members and was enthusiastically attended. We were treated to an inspiring talk from the interesting Ollie Hunter, local chef and author talking about the slow food movement.

Ollie was a MasterChef semi-finalist in 2013  and runs The Wheatsheaf pub in Chilton Foliat. Working in collaboration with his parents’ nearby farm, it has been voted the UK’s most sustainable pub as well as the best organic, local and seasonal pub. Ollie has written for the Sustainable Restaurant Association in the Telegraph and the Guardian.

His mission is creating a movement called 30 Food. Picking up the baton for generations to come, 30 Food will offer new ways of cooking, meaning everyone can afford organic food, aim to have zero food waste, and celebrate their local area by eating 50% within thirty miles.

It was a wonderful way to get ourselves back in the swing, all be it online. We are planning future talks for members in the year ahead.

Committee member recruitment

We are also still looking to recruit committee members We would love to hear from you if you’re interested in joining us. We have a few committee roles we’d like to fill and we’d be happy to tell you more. If you think you might like to join us please email us at sustainableshrivenham@gmail.com.

No experience necessary. Just a passion to make an impact. The more hands we have on deck, the more we can achieve!

Testimonials from committee members

Steph Muir

Being asked to join the Sustainable Shrivenham committee came at a difficult time in my life and I was a little apprehensive about what I could contribute. I needn't have been. A really friendly, relaxed and fun-loving group of people and my knowledge and interest in all things sustainable has grown.

Kate Mortiboy

Being a part of the Sustainable Shrivenham committee has given me so much purpose and hope for the future. Working with people who share a vision on how we can bring about change has opened my eyes to see that more and more the little changes we make individually can make the bigger change that is needed. Finding ways to support others to discover ways of making sustainable choices in their lives has been hugely rewarding. New friendship and laughter along the way has been an added bonus

Sandra Green

New village friends.  New and unexpected opportunities for sharing knowledge, enthusiasm, learning and laughs with great people.  Mutual, positive, kind support.  Seeing the best sides of team effort on micro and macro levels to achieve.... and that a little from me really can make a difference!

Kate Myrie

I love being part of the Sustainable Shrivenham committee. We have a friendly and informal way of working together, which is an absolute pleasure to be part of. We are all trying to make positive changes in our lives and we have been so encouraged by the response from our community. We have so much more we could do with a little extra help.

Kathy Durham

Being on the Sustainable Shrivenham Committee has introduced me to many new products and concepts, some of which I am incorporating into my household. It has given me greater awareness of initiatives within our surrounding communities and has given me hope that there are a lot of people who really do want to help save our planet. As a committee we have bonded through our desire to live a simpler more sustainable lifestyle. We have been encouraged by the positive feedback and assistance we have received and, most importantly, we frequently have a good laugh!!!
